today the third part of court was eneded.
I had some sad news, the lawyers are of saddam were so clever , and made the winttess talk about peshemrga...and the wintess said yeah I am a peshmerga... [and they used it as a reason of attack]

the translator of the witness had Several Mistakes ....
the translator's greatest mistake was when the witness said "the peshermgars left the village and no peshmerga was in the village"

the translator said in arabic "and all of the peopel of the village were peshmerga themselves..." (a reason to kill all the village)
I found that mistake ( I know a bit arabic) the Kurdistan TV after the court mentioned the mistakes in translation...
I dont know why they dont hire a good translator.

and the Real Sad news is this , the lawyer of saddam mentioned the mistakes in the transltion of the Kurdish side.... because the laywer of saddam was a Kurd himself!
can you belive it , it made me so sad ...a kurd defend Saddam against victiims of anfal...so so sad...whats your idea?

Maybe a Kurd is his lawyer because he wants to make Saddam look bad? And he won't do a good job in defending Saddam? He can make sure Saddam has nothing to say...

A lawyer defend someone not because he personnaly approve him, it is more complex. A lawyer can defend someone that he does not approve in fact.

The translator's mistakes are more serious, it is a real failure.

the other problem of the translator was.... he didnt tranlsate everything for the poor woman.

for example the saddam friends and the lawywer talked 1000 words and made laugh out of the woman's words...and the end he asked the question in 1 sentence , the translator just translated that 1 sentence for the woman , I could see that the poor woman was wondering and worrying what everybody (judge , lawyers , saddam friends) are talking about...
may be if she knew what they are Questiniing About, she could give better explain .

but still the translation was beter than first time first time was horrible.

by the way saddam has some chances to save his life...he is getting 70 years old soon (in 2 years), and by law if he get 70 years old , he wont be hanged .

the shia file took about 360 days, if the lawyers of saddam can delay more until 2 years , saddam wont be hanged.

for sure that Kurd lawyer has recieved much money , I think saddam was celever, he hired somebody who knows Kurdish language, to "Get" more infromation to save him from dea (an arab lawyer would never find out whats going on kurdish medias...on kurdish streets blah blah)

Yes it is true, there are some problems of transcription in this trial. But even if the witnesses speak arab,i prefer that they express in kurdish language in front of Nabuchodonosor and the other criminals of Baath regime.
But i did not know that one of his lawyers was Kurdish,it's really a bad news.Normally as a doctor cannot refuse to examine a patient,a lawyer cannot refuse to defend someone, even if he/she is a notorious criminal. But in this case,i think that the kurdish lawyer souldn't have accepted to defend this tyrant.Imagine a jewish lawyer defending the responsables of Holocaust after the 2nd Worl War!If one of his lawyers is really kurdish,he is probably a çe'sh or he defends him for money.

I didn'it find Saddam's lawyer very clever, some of their questions were really stupid! 2 exemples:
-What type of plane gased the village?
-Which flag was on the planes, the iraqi or the Iranian flag?

I have never heard such stupid questions in a justice court!!
In this period i was there,in a zone gased by the iraqi forces. One of the witnessses of yesterday was also from this area (Hêssê,Amêdîyê,Bêduhê,Ekmalê,Xrabey,Kanîmasa,Gîska gavana,Ure ...).
I remember when there were attacks, we tried to save our life in the bunkers,we did not have time to admire the fighters or to note its engine number!!
In addition, how do you want them to remember exactly the facts that happened 20 years ago??!

The Arabs have been trying to blame Iran for the chemical bombings for the last 20 years... It's a fact...
So the lawyer wanted to blame Iran... Not Iraq... Because Iraq is Arab - and we KNOW Arabs never do anything wrong...

Yes i agree with you,Saddam's lawyer are trying to blame Iran for the chimical attaks but they waste their time because Saddam's criminal regime implicitly admitted in the past having used poison gases. Moreover there is enough proof against them(video and written documents).

What I wanted to say is that the lawyers put questions which witnesses cannot answer.Do you really think that people observe these details on the planes when they are attacked by fighters to more than 1000 meters of altitude?I remember when the fighters came to attack us they were hardly visible in the sky. Some of their questions are really stupid but it is normal, they do not have anything other to say to defend this coward!

You are right about that... Stupid questions indeed... But they ARE Arabs after all?!! :P

You know - in a way I can't help but think that the US would want to blame Iran for the chemical bombings too... I mean just to have another excuse to invade Iran...? I dont know... Just thinking out loud... It would be very "expected" by the US to want something like that though...

I don't know the ins and outs of the trial, but this I do believe: It has to be "shown" that Saddam is having a VERY fair trial, otherwise the trial will be questioned. There is no way he will get off.

I agree... And that is probably the single most important part of this whole trial... It must be SEEN and KNOWN that he was trialed for his actions...

That is important in helping the people psychologically... And hopefully more people from the Sunni-Arab opposition will put down their guns and understand that "it's over - Baath is dead"...

I don't think he'll ever be put to trial for Halabja or his crimes against the Iranian people for that matter. If they do, someone is bound to ask the inevitable question: "Who sold him the WMD's?"
I wish they could hang the American, Dutch, German, French, Russian, and English freaks together with Rumsfeldt right next to him. I consider them lower creatures than Saddam himself.
There is only one path and that is the path of Asha
