Turkey should recognize the Assyrian genocide of 1915

PostAuthor: King Ashurbanipal » Wed Apr 25, 2007 9:47 am

The Turkish genocide of Assyrians took place during the end of the Ottoman Empire by the Turkish/Ottoman armies in collaboration with Kurdish clans. 75% (750,000) of Assyrians were killed. Although this happened 92 years ago, for Assyrians this chapter is still not closed, as they continue to struggle for the recognition of what happened in their grandparents' generation.

The Assyrian Genocide (Assyrian: ܩܛܠܐ ܕܥܡܐ ܐܬܘܪܝܐ or ܣܝܦܐ, Turkish: Süryani Soykırımı) was committed against the Assyrian population of the Ottoman Empire near the end of the First World War.[citation needed] The Assyrian population of northern Mesopotamia (Tur Abdin, Hakkari, Van, Siirt region in modern-day southeastern Turkey and Urmia region in northwestern Iran) was forcibly relocated and massacred by Ottoman (Turkish and Kurdish) forces between 1914 and 1920 under the regime of the Young Turks.

The Syriac name Qeṭlā ḏ-‘Amā Āṯûrāyā (ܩܛܠܐ ܕܥܡܐ ܐܬܘܪܝܐ), which literally means "killing of the Assyrian people", is used by some groups to describe these events. Other groups, especially those that do not wish to use the ethnic identifier Assyrian, refer to the genocide as Saypā (ܣܝܦܐ), pronounced Sayfo in the West Syriac dialect, meaning "sword".

this was at 1915, ergo, before the creation of modern Turkey

Of course, I want other to recognize the genocide, but none can stand responsible for it any longer.

you Assyrians are not alone about genocide, We Kurds, and Armenia have been slaughtered too. At least, we Kurds don't whine about recognition, we move forward and lies the past behind us, and rather concentrate about building and defending our country, I advice you to do the same, recognition doesn't help you.

are we talking about burning kurdish villages or genocide?

Kurds were treated badly but not genocided(except cultural genocide, asimilation.). At least, not in Turkey.

Lets not compare terms with each others..

why dont you find a more neutral page. This page is zaza nationalist..

It is funny, even Alevis dont claim such numbers. I should also add, It was an alevi rebellion..

If you ask me also, a stupid rebellion. They rebelled because They dont want pay tax and give soldier to army.

well, our political and culture have been assimilated, and thats our identity, without our identity, we are no one.

And yes, you sure have killed alot of us kurds, and if FN gave you rights to continue the genocide, it would still be happening.

It is funny, when Kurd were so much hated by Turks, They fleed turkish land and more than 50% of Kurds live at Turkish cities.
