Kurdish DNA

PostAuthor: Spectre19 » Thu Sep 30, 2010 9:13 pm

Hello, Assyrian here and I come in peace :)

I'm not sure what you guys think of this topic but I wonder why not many Kurds participate in genetic studies with companies like 23andMe and FTDNA, so far there's a good number of other Middle Eastern populations like Armenians, Assyrians, Iranians, Turks, Arabs, so on, but Kurds are seriously lacking here, it would be very nice to have a few Kurds join up with 23andMe and start a genetic profile.

So far the trend is north middle eastern populations are are very similar, in fact the closest to us Assyrians seems to be Armenians, but others like Anatolian Turks, Lebanese, Syrians, Greeks, Southern Italians, and northern Iranians also tend to be close to us, I'm willing to bet that the Kurds will be as close to us as the Armenians, meaning all of our populations are native to Mesopotamia/Anatolia for most part.

For those who can afford it now, don't hesitate:

https://www.23andme.com/

I know the price is kind of high, but they usually have sales and it's really worth it if you're into DNA, here's what you get with them:

- Y-DNA (Paternal Line) and mtDNA (Maternal Line).
- Your autosomal DNA results, which traces ALL your lines.
- Relative Finder tool for relatives (You'd be surprised at some of the results).
- Global similarity (to see where in the world you fit in), ancestry painting (To see the percentages of European/Asian/African mixes), and other ancestry tools.
- If you buy the full edition, you get health and trait reports and also you'll be able to have the raw data for your DNA in case you want it analyzed by others.
- You get to share your genomes with other users and compare to see how similar you are, this is how you figure out who's closest to you, it's like the facebook of genetics lol.

I hope we start seeing Kurds participate, so far most Assyrians who participated turned out to be related to one another (Talk about in-breeding haha), I wonder how Kurds will fare :)

I don't mix with politics, so politicians are just that, politicians.

If you're asking me what my opinions are of Kurds? I have respect for the Kurdish people, they are our neighbors and we live on the same land, I mean after all we're pretty much very similar with the exception of religion and language.

hello :). interesting. have you done the test??? what was the result? kurds are more similar to assyrians than other iranians, because local kurdistan people mixed with accient medians. the second assimilating could be on assyrian muslim converters, like greek muslims were turkificied. this is only my theori... :D :D :D

Hey sthanam, the tree you posted from the study is outdated, based from first hand experience Assyrians seems to be closest to Armenians, not Jordanians, I'm not sure why this study mentions that, but in any case your theories make sense, but you must also keep in mind that Kurdish and Assyrian people are both natives to the same land, yes we have mixes from outsiders but based on autosomal results, we are from the same genetic pool, in my opinion this comes back to the ancient Caucasian people that lived in Mesopotamia/Anatolia (Possibly Hurrians), we likely come from them, of course for the Kurds you guys ended up with an Iranian mix from Medes/Parthians and we ended up with a Semitic mix from Akkadians/Amorites, then there was other groups that mixed in as well but you get the idea on how we ended up with Semitic and Iranian languages, the Armenians like us, also also natives to Eastern Anatolia, which explains why we are close.

Keep an eye on it, sometimes they have major sales, on DNA day their complete editions were $99 which is a huge bargain.

This DNA crap makes everyone feel really special and these companies are banking on that to make huge profits . unlike what your mother told you , the truth is " No one is special "

Ez Kurdim

Diya min kurda
Kalkid min kurd bun
kalkid kalki Kalik kalki min kurd bun :D

Last time I checked no on forced you to take a DNA test, just because you think it's crap it does not really mean it is, some people happen to be curious and interested in studying their origins, if anything I would say it brings humans closer as people rather than divided nations.

DNA studies also have far more uses than just origins and heritage, it also shows the hereditary traits and diseases you are at risk for, in fact 23andMe seem to focus more on health than on ancestry, but they provide full detail ancestry too, not to mention this is also a great tool for those who are adopted or don't know anything about their biological family.

Finally, it's nice that you said that little poem there but being Kurdish (Which is a recent ancient identity) has nothing to do with DNA (Which is passed down to us by our pre-historic ancestors), ethnic identities are too recent and should not be mixed with DNA, if you think a DNA test will prove what your ancestors were calling themselves 2000 years ago you're mistaken, that's not what DNA is about.

Agreed, they are expensive but this is why I said keep an eye out for sales, specially DNA day where kits go out for $99, nothing beats such price and trust me, 23andMe is the best company to test with out there.

Btw, I'm not here to promote any company, I'm here because I'm interested in Kurdish people just as I am interested in our other neighbors, it's just too bad we don't have Kurdish samples out there because I truly think of all populations that participated from our region, the Kurds are the major ones missing, and could likely be the closest ones to Assyrians.

Khona Atoraya ,

do not take this personally .I'm not debating sience here or trying to diminish from the its importance . You are acting like a defensive sales man who want to shove their product in to people's throat .What you are posting is a spam geared towards making profits form the naive and uneducated . Feel free to discuss DNA but do not advertise companies here and encourage people to buy your product .

So , let me see . we send a swap to 23ANDME  and they send us a piece of paper worth 2 cents with data that can not be verified .for only only
$499
hold on , sometime you have sale ? 2 for 1 , what is it ! a Pizza sale ?

finally what I posted was not a poem so I suggest you do not comment on something you do not understand .
