Kurdish tattoo

My grandmother's mom had some of these tattoos. But I belive many kurds had these tattoos because it was cool and didn't really now the meaning of the tattoos and what they represent if they did.

Kurdistano that is what I stated before, it had indo-European orginis, considering the swastikized symbols, but some other Kurds convinced me other wise. Though I suppose it is a mix of cultures.
Is it only for women? If not, I'm getting one.

DIdnt knew the meaning of the tattoos? That must be a joke I thought every Kurd knew that these tattoos are meant to protect from bad ghosts and the evil eyes (Nazar). My Grandmother had also some and my mother still has one.

mostly woman got some, especially if they are considered beautiful to protect them from evil eyes but I have also seen many man having these tattoos and they are originally for both sexualities. Also Kurdish man have them. They are basically meant to secure from evil eyes and ghosts.


I am not saying it is impossible that Hurrians had these tattoos too. I find that Hurrians have pretty much Indo-European related traditions. I am simply stating that it has to have Indo-European related roots. But I have to admit I have never heard of Persians having such tattoos.


As far as I know swatztika is first recorded in the Near East and found throughout Eurasia.

Of course it isn't a coincidence but I still belive some had no idea of the meaning and just had them because it was cool.

It is mainly used for strong boys and beautiful girls yes but why? To protect them from evil eyes and bad ghosts. This is what our people say and this is what I saw on a documentation on Roj TV what an older woman also said.

Just do a google search of kawa, Kurdish sun, hurrian art pottery reliefes, kingdom of urartu, Sumerian depictions, Gilgamesh these are all Kurdish things and with the rugs they have many hooked crosses or swastikas I believe.

I myself am greeting a sleeve on my left arm containing a king from Urartu holding trees of life, with two guards by his side, and standing on a bull Gamesh another important symbol.

I also recommend you to look up Assyrian and inked on Facebook look their for some inspiration, even though I hate those racist Assyrians they have nice ancient tattoos.
