Erbil to set a Guinness record

PostAuthor: unitedkurdistan » Tue Dec 11, 2012 3:59 pm

Erbil is preparing for two milestones in the coming years

In spite of fuelling political disputes between Iraqi federal government and Kurdistan Regional Government, Erbil, the capital of the region is preparing to put its name in the Guinness Book of Records.

The city's administration is getting ready to make the biggest dancing row ever around the historic Erbil Citadel, which dates back around 3,000 years. Kurdish traditional dance, locally known as "Halparke" may open a gate toward the city becoming better known globally.

It is supposed that the event will be held in the next Nawroz, Kurdish New Calendar, in front of the Guinness' judges.

There is a very serious attempt to organize a remarkable and fantastic festival with the aim of giving the city an international look, officials say.

"All different nations of Erbil will gather around each other in the next coming March and April. They all make a big dancing row around the Citadel," Hamza Hamid, Erbil governorate's Head of Relations told Kurdish media outlets.

He remarked that several artistic bands will be invited from across the world to take part in the festival; adding that the Arab Leagues' representative will also be invited.

Tourism Capital of Arab countries

Erbil is titled as Tourism Capital of Arab countries for 2014 so the city's officials are trying to get the city ready to welcome tourists from across the world.

Dr Shukriya Rasoul who says she is the first woman ever to have studied Kurdish folklore as a speciality, criticized the KRG that it does not take benefit from her knowledge as well. She says that Kurds have more than 500 different kinds of dancing. She identified Kurdish dancing [Halparke] as a major part of Kurdish identity.

"If Erbil would like to record its name on Guinness, the officials should invite different dancing groups across Kurdistan," she said.

That is what I HATE about some Kurds, as soon as somebody has a good idea (and I think that the idea of having the longest row of dancers is a brilliant idea, some prat comes along with the 'I could have done it better' attitude X(

It is obvious to me that Dr Shukriya Rasoul is lacking in BRAINS because there is NO WAY that one could have a long row of people dancing together if they are ALL dancing differently. =)) =)) =)) =)) =)) =)) =)) =)) =)) =)) =)) =))

But she is right, there are many different types of Kurdish circle dances.

Indeed there are many different type of dances but for a record you only need ONE dance and it should be the easiest and most well known

To obtain the World Record they need THOUSANDS of people to do exactly the same dance for probably about 10 minutes or more

They will need 20,000 to 30.000 people dancing properly, in step (hopefully) together

500 hundred dances does not come into it at all, it is the LARGE numbers of people all dancing IN STEP

I have no idea what Dr Shukriya Rasoul is talking about, it has nothing to do with obtaining a World Record and getting publicity

I firmly believe that either Dr Shukriya Rasoul has never heard of the Guinness Book of World Records or just likes getting her name in the media
