Hi, Choni Bashi? Insha'Allah everyone is well!
I just wanted to ask something with regards to Islam & tattoos............
anyway so here goes....... I have a few tattoos, nothing overly big & in your face, but these are very special to me! But my husband has said when I pass away in later life I will not get into Jannah with them, as tattoos are Haram, and the fact one is a cheeky cartoon like devil (mistake at 16 years old regretted severely !) :ymdevil: & the other a fairy/angel O:-) these are worse, is this true I have been searching for proof as he said there is a Hadith forbidding tattoos. He has offered to pay for me to have them removed as he is my husband I want to make him happy & he is obviously very uncomfortable with my having them (I wish he'd said years ago lol) so I most likely will get them removed. But they are not just silly pictures some have my daughters name ect. so they are special otherwise I would never have gotten them in the first place! Can anyone confirm if this is true as I reverted to Islam 2 years ago & wish to live a proper Islamic life if I am being Haram by not getting them removed when there is options to do so that makes the sin much worse wouldn't it? I would just like to know if the Haram thing is true and if so , why do some Kurdish women in Kurdistan have them? Are those just Kurdish women from the Yezidi sect.as I know that's a mix of Islam & Christian & other bits & bobs of religions, so I assume they are allowed to have them. I have however seen many younger Kurds are having them also especially those living outside of Kurdistan hence this post so I am assuming it can't be as bad as my husband has made it sound. I am not 100% sure if any the photos I have previously seen are Yezidi or the Sunni/Shia Islamic Kurds, Thanks for any informations & views on this subject! Helen x :)

Hello Helen :ymhug:

I think that it is wonderful of you to adopt Islam. You have obviously done so with a pure heart. Do not worry NOTHING you have done prior to becoming a Muslim will cause you any harm. It is only things that you do since becoming a Muslim, that are Haram.

With reference to having the tattoos removed: I have a friend who is an Islamic teacher and he would tell you that rather than paying to have tattoos removed, you should not worry about them because when you had them done you were innocent in the ways of Islam. If you have any money to spare, please donate it to your local Mosque to help fund their community support groups and foreign aid projects.

I hope this has been of help to you :D

Hi there thanks for your reply :) I am so glad you have said that it makes me feel so much better tbh & I have spoken to my husband & he has actually agreed to your suggestion & we will donate some money to the Syria appeal fund at our local Mosque better its in their pockets that the tattooists!!

I love my religion its the best thing I have ever done in my life excluding having my daughter & getting married. Its an amazing feeling to finally have accepted Allah(swt). But I was very worried as too many sisters had told me I would go to hell for my tattoos :/ amongst many other things lol The crap I was told you would just laugh at =)) There is so much conflicting information out there its so hard with all the extremists & radicalised Muslims & then you have the judgmental ones who myself as a revert will never ever be good enough to be accepted but you know what I don't care any more I used to but not now as long as Allah(swt) know my heart & intentions are pure I am content in my actions & if my husband is pleased with me then I am happy also.
I went to see how much it would have cost to have removed & the same tattooist who did most of my tattoos wanted £20 per session & thats only going to remove a very small area of the tattoo & not even completely each one would need around 7 sessions! Thank you for your advice its helped a lot :)
I have experienced so much nasty & ignorant abuse since reverting I wouldnt eve dare wear my hijab due to being spit on, having it pulled off & assaulted verbally & physically for simply choosing to cover up & dress modestly!!But I am past caring now ! Before she died my grandmother used to say "what ppl do not know nor understand the will fear & fight against!" And she was so right!A very wise woman who is sorely missed! But now I am so different,I wear my hijab proudly! I am happy with my choices but its been a very difficult path & a very upsetting journey at times but I am still 110% HAPPY i JUST SAY F*CK THEM ALL NOW & LAUGH AT THEM! :)) Zor Supas for your reply its helped greatly! Do take care Wa Salaam Helen
