it is the longest night of the year, Ayrans celebrate it because after this night, nights are gonna be shorter and shorter, it is a very ancient celebration, many crediable historian belive that Christmas is taken from Shevi Zestan (or Yalda)

because they didnt know jesus birthday ( nobody really mentioned his birthday) and later they decided to celbrate christmas with yalda.

in Slemani some kurdish people gathered and celebrated Yalda by reading poems

I think kurds only celebrate this in Rojehlat and some parts in Slemani province.

Of course. It celebrated at first the rebirth of Sun, and later, Roman Church decided to replace the celebration of sun by the o Christ's birthday instead. They never pretended that Jesus's birthday happened really on December 25th but they told to people : "now here is the real sun, etc"

Yalda is not even an Iranian but an an Aramaic name. It means Nativity/Birth and many Christians (and people in Iran) have that name.

Mithra (Sun-God) is believed to be a mediator between God and man, between the Sky and the Earth. Mithra was born of a virgin on 25 December. He travelled far and wide. He had twelve followers who travelled with him. Mithra's great festivals are observed in the Winter Solstice and the Vernal Equino, Christmas and Easter. His symbol is the lamb :ymdevil:
