City of Mecca and the Ka’aba

PostAuthor: Anthea » Sun May 12, 2013 6:14 pm

Long time ago, a tiny spot in the sandy soil of the Arabian Peninsula , became the focal point of the Pagan nomads of the desert: known to them as Bakka, it had a well, they called Zumzum, which supplied them with water throughout the year. Water was one of the rarest commodities in the lives of the desert dwellers. To find it so easily was a miracle to them. Believing that the miracle was worked by Allah, they built nearby the well a House to Him so that they could thank and worship Him for His favor. They named it Ka’aba, or the House of Allah.

The Pagans were a deeply religious people. They believed that there was a god to look after every aspect of their lives. Consequently, they believed that there was a god who gave them life. They also believed that the same god, whom they called Allah, gave them sustenance and protected them from all hazards of earth. They further believed that there were other gods who, apart from carrying out their respective duties, rained water from the sky and made them successful in their battles.

Lesser gods were worshipped because they had the power, and the ability, to intercede, on behalf of their worshippers, with Allah. Notable among them were called al-Lat, al-Manat and al-Uzza. The Pagans worshipped them, because they believed they were the daughters of Allah.

The number of gods the Pagans believed in, and worshipped, stood at three hundred and sixty. All of them were represented by their idols. These idols were kept inside and outside of the Ka’aba, a cubic shape structure that was built by the founding fathers of paganism to protect them from the hostile and unpredictable climate of the desert.

The founders of paganism worshipped idols not because they were idol worshippers, but for the reason that by worshipping them, they hoped to draw nearer to them the living gods, who the idol represented. The Quran confirms this belief of the Pagans. Their descendent followed their footstep and over a period of time, paganism became a part of their life.

One of the major tribes, known as Quraish, dominated the city at the time it was called Mecca by the people of the Arabian Peninsula . The Quraish tribe consisted of three groups of people. One was the priestly group, which controlled the House of Allah, and sustained itself on the income that the House generated from the pilgrims. The second group consisted of a small number of the Quraish people who engaged themselves in trade. The third group was large, and it consisted of the people who earned their livelihood by supplying water and other services to the pilgrims. Their occupation did not guarantee them a regular income; when they had a large number of pilgrims, they earned a good living, but when the number of the pilgrims declined, so did their income. Those people can be compared with our modern-day day laborers; they get paid only when they are employed for an active service.

The Ka'aba was built by the prophet Ibraheem and his son Ismael, however it was used by pagans until the arival of Islam.

You really are a thoroughly unpleasant person X(

I am able to discuss the origins of the Ka'aba with Islamic teachers without them being nasty at all. We are all interested in it's history and the history of the Black Stone itself. Most normal logical sensible people are able to discuss things but NOT you X(

I find the history of the Ka'aba totally fascinating :D

I believe that the Holly Quran states Adam himself built the very first structure on that site and it has been rebuilt several times.

It is believed that Mohammed took part in one of it's re-buildings :D

Im getting so sick of coming on here every single day and getting sidetracked from the Kurdish cause, because I end up having to defening my personal religious beliefs. And the administrator is missing in action and doesnt even care, why should I care then? Pretty soon I will throw in the towel, because this is not what I signed up for. Sadly, that is exactly what the trolls want.

I politely suggest you go and talk to your Imam and ask him about the origins of the Ka'aba and, I believe that, you will discover in the Holly Quran it states ADAM was believed to have been the first person to have built a structure on that site. Your Imam will also be able to confirm that over the years the Ka'aba has been rebuilt several times.

You may then return and APOLOGISE

I may be wrong about one fact - but I also think that it was more of an oblong structure at one time - perhaps you will be good enough to ask your Imam about that while you are there :D

I really do not know why you are so unpleasant I will put it down to you having given up smoking :ymdevil:

We come here and we share ideas, thoughts and news. And YES I do see things from a woman's point of view, that is probably because I am a WOMAN whereas you seem only interested in insulting individuals, myself included

On several occasions I have asked you to back up your statements with examples but you have never done so, you have behaved in an extremely puerile manner and been extremely insulting :ymtongue:

I did not wish you harm, I am trying to help you avoid Gods wrath. Those are the kinds of things that might happen to people who try to discredit the Quran and Gods messenger. There are some things that we are not meant to know or understand yet, this is not a joke, you are talking about the creator of the universe, my friendly advice to you careful from Allah! This is what I believe from my own observation and logical conclusions. Nobody trained me, i see with my own eyes :-B

One quick and intresting bit of information, since you mentioned Adam. There is a little known place in Jeddah, not far from Mecca, that is supposed to be the burial place of Eve. The Saudi government does not promote these things because of the strict practices of the Wahabi sect, even many places in Mecca and other places have been closed down because they do no not want people to idolize them.

Writing as a Pastafarian, I think it is terribly sad that a structure such as the Ka'aba that pre-dates both Christianity and Islam, should be looked upon as something that divides religions.

I firmly believe that it should be looked upon as the birth place of Judaism, Christianity and Islam and treated with equal respect by all. I find it's history totally fascinating and believe it is something people should learn more about.

Many of the wars take place between Judaism, Christianity and Islam, and indeed between the different factions within these religions. Perhaps it is time for people to look more at the common basis for these religious beliefs, and stop focusing on the MINOR differences.

If, as is believed by all three religions, there is a GOD who created the heaven and the earth and all thereon, he must be extremely angry with all the idiots who are intent on destroying his beautiful creation.

It is time for the religious beliefs of Judaism, Christianity and Islam, to be based on commonality instead of the dissimilarity :ymhug:
