Help needed about Roj TV

A place for discussion and exchanging ideas about Kurdistan issues here, also a place for sharing article & views and analysis about Kurdistan .

PostAuthor: Diri » Tue Nov 22, 2005 2:40 pm

Okey let's clear up some things:

1) I only said what I said because I reacted to your (Medya's) way of attacking Kurdistan TV and KURDSAT.

2) I am not for closing down Roj TV.

3) It is hard for people, who like yourself, don't have ALL the Kurdish channels to actually understand the rivalry between them.

The day that Telebanî called for the called for some terrorist Assyrians to stop supporting terrorism, Roj TV broadcast an interview with an Assyrian journalist. So on Roj TV - she was sitting and saying SHIT about Kurds in South Kurdistan.

THAT IS ROJ TV - KURDISTAN TV - rivalry...

4) VIDEO CLIPS are made by the SINGERS - NOT BY KURDISTAN TV or ROJ TV----> The reason the ones on ROJ TV are proffessional is because they are mostly made by RICH DIASPORA KURDS - the ones on Kurdistan TV are made by POOR KURDS IN SOUTH KURDISTAN - Who want to be singers...

Diri, do you ever wonder how an organization like the PKK with no state backing and with a diaspora that is distinctly NOT RICH (compared to say the Armenians or other groups) (unless by rich you mean a guy who owns a donair store) can create such a professional television?

And do you ever wonder why the KDP and the PUK that get millions of dollars and have no legal problems and can send their reporters anywhere produce such low quality, dribble generally lacking in Kurdish cultural and even political content? It is a pain to watch KurdistanTV or Kurdsat. They are getting better, but oh boy, it is slow.

I think somewhere along the way, you have to question WILL. Where there's a will to produce good programming for your people, there's a WAY - they'll find the money. Just like Piling mentioned how the PKK uses its "drug money" to fund Roj TV (!!! - even if this malicious propaganda was true - I salute them for spending the money on the television rather than on making PKK commanders richer and buying them personal estates in Europe)

Maybe if the people of southern Kurdistan question why some of the money can't be spent in producing watchable television, we'd be closer to a solution.

I'm all for the developments in Southern Kurdistan but to ignore the corruption of southern leaders and their hoarding of wealth for personal gain is something that does not cease to amaze me.

Funny... For some very funny bunny reason, Nishtîman, you agreed that Roj TV is funded by the PKK... Which doesn't sound realistic - but more like a "half-truth"...

Good TV comes with two things:

1) Education

2) Money

To have MONEY but not EDUCATON... Is USELESS... TO have EDUCATION but not MONEY is less of a problem...

Roj TV (formerly known as Med TV and later Medya TV) is based on educated peoples oppinion of TV - it has traditions - and experience to draw on - if you take a look back in time - Med TV was SUCKING - but it has improved A LOT since that time...

Now it is Roj TV and it could be mistaken for a French/German/Swedish/British etc channel...

Nothing is SIMPLE... And explaining Kurdish TV politics, is not simple either...

But I do agree that only when people stop shoving into their pockets, will Kurdish TV evolve...

What it has improved in Roj TV comparing with MED TV is that now, people have not the obligation to listen 4 or 5 hours of Öcalan's speeches by phone.

Diri, I realized that I made the assumption that ROJ TV was funded by the PKK, which you could claim as 'funny bunny' reasoning ... I think it is difficult to deny that Med TV was a PKK initiative, and all the successive televisions tried to become more financially and legally independent from the PKK as well as reflecting content that was more neutral.

But, your point about Education and Money - while being generally valid - still does not excuse KURDsat or KurdistanTV. I don't think the people who worked at MedTV were professionaly trained in media and technology. But, they hired people who were and learned from them. It all goes back to will and determination. For the KDP and PUK, having good quality TV is just not a priority. Had it been, again, the "money" could have been used to get more "educated" - even if only by the meanest of methods - paying those with the expertise to help.

Well... aside from all your debating... it would be a big shame for Roj TV to be shut down. They do cover a lot about the East and North of Kurdistan that is often ignored by the other Kurdish channels. I only hope Denmark takes a stance on this issue...

They apparantly also report about West-KUrdistan. I saw news about the Kurdish conference en paris.

No ROJ TV shouldn't be closed!
The suppression of ethnic cultures and minority religious groups in attempting to forge a modern nation were not unique to Turkey but occurred in very similar ways in its European neighbours - Bruinessen.

those parts that I marked Red, are so true, for example Roj TV broad casta a weekly 2 hours of Hewerami Langauge program , I guess if pilling could undrestand hewrami , she shouldt say 3/4 of their programs are stupid and propagenda.

Hewrami is a language that is dying ! it is a part of kurdish language ![my father is hewrami so I undrestand it] Roj TV , is the only TV that has WEEKLY Hewrami program.

by the way , I like to hear ochalan's voice,,, because I never never heared his voice... how do you claim that Roj TV always shows ochalan's speech....I wish I could see one of those propagendas that you say , are 3/4 of the Roj TV , because I never heared Apo's voice by my ear.

by the Roj TV has many bad things ...for example , they broadcast too much turkish program ...I wish I could just delete their turkish part , or move their turkish part to another TV ...like Turk Roj .and keep Roj TV just kurdish.
First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then YOU WIN !

it was in his firs "avatar", MED TV... Of course, after 1999, he did not talk in Kurdish TV.
But in MEDYA TV we could hear often Osman Öcalan, but now he fled from the PKK too...

Roj TV is still the media of the PKK, as Özgür Politika. And I don't like the PKK. But all the same I am against the closure of Roj TV, for I am not like the PKK : I support democracy and freedom of expression.
